Teaching the Holocaust

All classes will incorporate hands on activities, readings, discussions, and film clips that teachers can learn by and use the model in class.

1. Intros/why teach Holocaust education/how Holocaust education has changed/goals/overviews/what’s appropriate and not appropriate for various grade levels/etc.

2 Personal Identity

3. Life Before the War

4. Rise of Hitler/Ghettos/Hitler Youth

5. Propaganda/obedience

6. Stories of camps, partisans, hiding

7. Bystanders and upstanders/levels of responsibility

8. Where do we go from here/issues of forgiveness

9. Other genocides around the world

10. Teaching techniques/QandA/role-playing scenarios/what to do with their enthusiasm/how to demand respect in a classroom/parental involvement/working with survivors/etc
