About Teaching Israel

Before we set ourselves on the journey of teaching Israel in the Jewish school, we have to ask ourselves the following:

1. Is this subject of teaching "Israel" going to be a part of a long range – four to five year study, i.e., are the children in our school going to have once a week session under the title "Israel"?
2. If this is not the case, does it mean the subject matter "Israel" will be an occasional session referring to special occasions --- "Israel independence day", "Jerusalem day", Jewish holidays and the like.

Once we have answered the above questions we have to continue and ask ourselves the following:

3. What is it that we aim for our student s to know and come out with about "Israel" in the sessions we are planning. do we want the students to know the biblical Israel, its history? do we want them to know the modern up to date Israel? is it its people, the building of the state, and the absorption of new immigrants? or, do want them to know the geography, its main cities, and its capital, "Jerusalem", which is a subject on its own.

Once we have answered the above questions, we can start outlining a program of what we want and what we can teach our students depending on their age level and the amount of time allotted to the subject.

In this course, we will try and help you, the teachers and principal, build a curriculum to fit your needs and situation as you go along.

Based on your response, and specific needs to the above questions, we will continue to develop the curriculum that will suit you.
